Helping Hands Autism Support Group

With their Space & Place grant, the group will transform a now derelict BHSCT building into a dedicated Autism Resource Centre.

Helping Hands is a user led support group established in 2008 to assist children and young people who have been diagnosed with Autism or Aspergers, (referred as Autism Spectrum Disorder *ASD).

The group’s management committee comprises of parents who have a child and in one case, children who have all been placed on this spectrum. Much of their learning and the support work they have developed has been through their own experiences.

With their Space & Place grant, the group will transform a now derelict BHSCT day care centre for older people and transform it into a dedicated Autism Resource Centre which can offer not only current services but also develop additional activities and support that will bring enhanced benefits to this community. In addition this centre will also offer space for the local community to use for some of their activities.
