Eoghain Rua Kilcoo GAC

This project will lead to the development of a new-build community centre for the village within the grounds of the local GAC.

Eoghain Rua Kilcoo GAA Club, based in the County Down village of Kilcoo, was founded in 1906 and is a fully constituted sporting club. They are a community-based volunteer organisation which aims to develop and promote Gaelic games, Irish culture and lifelong participation. They play a keen role in all that goes on within the community and have been working with all the groups operating in the area to deliver a range of activities to meet the needs of local people.

They play a key role in the leadership of the local community through their voluntary effort, their links with other community organisations and their role in developing projects and securing funding for the delivery of recent projects including a Walkway and a Play Park.

This project will lead to the development of a new-build community centre for the village within the grounds of the local GAC. The site has been derelict for a number of years. The  group and the wider community are keen to see it developed to bring the site into productive use for the benefit of people living in the area. The group intends to deliver an integrated community hub that can assist with creating greater community connections, helping to address social isolation and generate increased social capital within the area. It will also complement other recent developments including a walking trail and a play park and the group are confident that it can be a catalyst to greater partnership working within the area.
